The Baby’s Here And We’re Coming Home

Here it is 3 days and one miraculous expereience later.  You think it’s a cliche when they call a new baby a miracle but that’s exactly what it feels like.  Looking into Jamie’s eyes and her into mine while she was giving birth was the single most ‘miraculous’, amazing and love filled experiences of my life.  Words fall so far short of being able to describe it.

Isaac Micheal Newhart was born at 9:13am March 4th with his head full of red hair. Though a scale error had his birth weight pegged a 6lb 14oz after a later weighing it turns out he is 7lbs 7ozs and 21 inches long.  All tests so far have come back good.  He is such a calm baby and the crying hasn’t gotten out of hand….yet.

I know I am biased, but I’m pretty sure he has to be one of the most beautiful babies ever born on this planet.  In the commotion Jamie and I didn’t take many pictures, but luckily the grandmothers did.

Here is Newborn Issac with his grandmother Meg…  She sure looks happy!

I’m going back to the hospital now to sign some papers and bring my baby and my honey home. Talk to you all again real soon : )

  • I have twins who were born on March 4th so I consider it a very special day. That was seven years ago. Time flies when you are having fun. Congrats to you!

Congratulations on this new journey of life!
  • congratulations! Don't miss a moment, you can't get them back! And, you won't be thinking of this, but your reward for all the sleepless nights, diapers, tantrums, and grey hairs from worry over what the heck your teenager is up to is this....grandchildren!! No one told me this. I was so frazzled with caring for the kids I couldn't wait until I got a breather (as in they were grown) But they surprised me with a reward--a second chance to really enjoy little ones. I have three (children) and three grandchildren and I am truely blessed. So are you.
  • Congratulations! What an awesome event in your lives! Blessings to your family.
  • I'm a first time reader, but I hope you don't mind this comment on your very special day. I am 50 and the father of 5 children. the oldest is 19 and he just landed in SFO for Spring Break. the youngest are twins, that will be 11 in two weeks. I know you are a repeat dad, but your writing shows that birth is still a miracle for you. May I share some things I learned and wrote down as something for other dads. It's kind of cathartic for me to share it, thank you in advance.

    1) Every thing is temporary, the smiles and the tears, so just when you think you heard as much crying as you can stand, take it a little more, cause one day, it won't be there at all.

2)Enjoy the firsts, they become routine pretty quick, even the second child as firsts to celebrate.

    3) hold his hand in your hand for as many days as you can, notice how small, it won't be that small tomorrow and next month.

    4) hold his hand in your hand for as long as he'll let you. There will be a time when he'll let go. Don't worry, they do come back, but it will be different.

    5) Shut off the TV, i regret I didn't do it more.

    6) Watch Field of Dreams and Dead Poets Society, they will be different now than when you first saw them.

    7) Mark down the day you world changes, for me there was a moment with each child that they looked different, from infant to baby, baby to toddler, toddler to boy, boy to youngster, youngster to teenager, teenager to man.

    8) Err on the side of being with them as much as you can, you'll never regret it

Congratulations, and thank you for allowing me to share my fatherly joy with you.
  • Such a beautiful baby! Congratulations and much happiness. :-)
  • Wow, congratulations man! My two kids have not been little babies for many years and sometimes I kind of miss that time. You are at the beginning of a grand adventure!
